Oklahoma County Tactical communication

OKMRC volunteers have been invited to attend Tactical Communication sponsored by the Emergency Disaster Services Department of The Salvation Army’s Arkansas-Oklahoma Division.

To register for the Oklahoma City training, go to: http://OKCTacticalComm.eventbrite.com

This is a free one-day workshop to help first responders master effective interactions with citizens from diverse economic backgrounds. Author of Tactical Communication, Jodi Pfarr, will provide first responders a set of tools that help:

  • Control the scene
  • Keep everyone safe
  • Gain the cooperation and respect of people from all economic backgrounds

Information from the Bridges Out of Poverty workshop is tailored to help first responders understand the driving forces among all three economic classes generally encountered on calls (poverty, middle class, and wealth). A better understanding of class allows first responders to be more effective with each contact. It allows police officers, for example, to spend less time on calls and receive fewer complaints. Based on the book, Tactical Communication, this workshop explains the “hidden rules” of class and increases the participants’ awareness of the differences in each class and how those differences impact situations.
Training applications:

  • How to gather better information from people regardless of economic backgrounds
  •  Enhanced ability to maintain control on the scene in any community and situation
  • Reduced miscommunication or misunderstanding of instructions
  • The ability to reframe information in meaningful ways to each economic class
  • Increased efficiency in the field
