Participants will learn to recognize the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer's and understand effective communication strategies, including some common behavioral triggers in individuals with dementia. The course culminates with an introduction to the Dementia Friendly Oklahoma Recognition Program, explaining the concept of dementia-friendly communities, potential partners, and the process of becoming a recognized partner in this important initiative. 10:00-10:15 Break 10:15-11:15 Communicating with those with Alzheimer’s (1.25 CE*) (Sign up on other event for this one)—Morgan Hamilton, MPH and Jacob Guinan, Oklahoma State Department of Health This course provides essential insights into the evolving communication challenges faced by individuals living with Alzheimer's disease. Participants will learn to interpret both verbal and behavioral messages from those with dementia, developing skills to respond effectively and compassionately. The course covers communication strategies tailored to each stage of Alzheimer's, from early to late, equipping caregivers and professionals with practical tools to maintain meaningful connections throughout the progression of the disease.
