Description:
De-Escalation Training Objectives: • Define and discuss anger, aggression, and violence • Identify how anger, aggression, and violence can be increased or decreased in client encounters • Practice techniques to self-calm when someone is increasing in aggression • Describe signs of escalation in client scenarios • Contrast responses that make the situation more/less escalated • Role play debriefing strategies following an escalation incident • Examine current organizational policies with a goal to create ones that help to prevent/respond to escalation

This training covers de-escalation techniques and explains the progression of anger to aggression and violence using a ladder metaphor, providing specific strategies to recognize escalation signs and safely defuse tense situations. This training emphasizes self-calming techniques, proper body language, tone of voice, and empathetic listening as key components of effective de-escalation. Through scenarios and group discussions, participants learn practical methods to manage confrontational situations while prioritizing safety and preventing further escalation.
