Tulsa County Sound the Alarm Campaign

May 12 2018

Volunteers have been requested to assist the American Red Cross with their Sound the Alarm Campaign.

In the State of Oklahoma in 2018, we have had 38 reported fire fatalities. Most of these homes did not have a working smoke alarm that could have ultimately saved lives. Join us on May 12th, 2018 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm to Sound the Alarm. Save a Life! We are installing 750 free smoke alarms and speaking to families about home fire safety in Tulsa neighborhoods adjacent to Chamberlain Park. To reach our goal, we are going to need as many hands as we can get on that day. The old proverb, "Many hands make light work" sums up the theme for this day. Volunteers should choose 1 of 4 roles, and note your preference in the comment when you sign up:

Volunteer Safety Educator- Educates the family on fire safety and assists with completing a disaster plan while the smoke alarm is being installed. This person should be comfortable with speaking to a wide variety of individuals.

Volunteer Smoke Alarm Installer- Installs smoke alarms in the homes. This person should be comfortable using a ladder and power drill.

Volunteer Documenter- Records information about each home and the smoke alarms installed. This person should be comfortable completing basic paperwork.

This event will largely be outdoors, but the canvassing teams will be in and out of homes. Please wear your OKMRC t-shirt and badge, and wear weather-appropriate attire (shorts or jeans depending on heat, possibly a hat or jacket or sunglasses). You will be walking and be on your feet so comfortable, closed-toed shoes are preferred. Sunscreen recommended.
