Out of Darkness Walk - Norman - Ruby Grant ParkThe Cleveland County MRC Unit will be activating on Sunday November 9th from 3 pm until 8 pm to support the Cleveland County Walk out of Darkness Event hosted by the Oklahoma Chapter of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. We are hoping to have 6 non-medical volunteers sign up to manage the safety, traffic flow, and driver/participant communication at the 3 parking lots at Ruby Grant Park in Norman, OK. We will have lawn chairs, pop up tents, and some traffic cones to deploy. Be weather aware as early November can be warm or cold. The event utilizes the walking trail throughout the park. It is hosted at the North Parking Lot and Outdoor Pavillion. The event overwhelms the main North Parking Lot and the East and West Lots are connected to the walking trail and are used for overflow parking. Registration for the event begins at 4 pm, The Program begins at 6 pm and concludes with a walk that will end the event before 8 pm. AFSP is the largest private funder of suicide prevention grants in the world. Each year, the signature fundraising walk raises the vital funding needed to continue to study and understand suicide. The information learned by AFSP is used to create educational programs used to prevent suicide, advocate for legislation that is smart about mental health and suicide prevention, as well as support survivors of suicide loss. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. AFSP creates a culture that’s smart about mental health through education and community programs, develops suicide prevention through research and advocacy, and provides support for those affected by suicide.
