STATEWIDE ACTIVATION-SAND SPRINGS TORNADO RESPONSE: Red Cross Shelter in Sapulpa

American Red Cross Shelter Request for OKMRC Volunteers In response to the devastating tornado that touched down in Sand Springs on Wednesday night (March 25) the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps has been requested to assist with the medial and functional needs of clients staying in the American Red Cross Shelter which has been established to assist the community. We are currently looking for medical, non-medical and mental health personnel to assist with this request. The Shelter population is predominantly over the age of 51 with 13 over the age of 72. The total population at this time is 40 clients to include children and pets. Medical Volunteers: Assistance with persons with chronic, semi-acute medical needs. General Volunteers: Assisting shelter clients with functional and access needs services which may include dressing and assistance to showers. Mental Health Volunteers: Providing Psychological First Aid (PFA) to clients and volunteers. Animal Response Volunteers: Volunteers are needed to assist the OKMRC Humane Emergency Animal Response Team (HEART) with providing on-site care for client's pets. OKMRC HEART has their large mobile unit set up at the shelter. Make sure to let Kristie know that you are volunteering for the OKMRC HEART! Shifts available: 8:00 am to 3:30 pm 1 Medical, 1 Mental Health and 4 General OR 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm 1 Medical, 1 Mental Health and 4 General OR (Overnight shift) 9:30 pm to 8:30 am, 5 volunteers needed to assist functional and access needs shelter residents with getting out of cots, dressing, getting to restroom, getting ready for bed, assistance to showers, etc...
