Core Disaster Life Support online course

eCDLS Training

The electronic Core Disaster Life Support online disaster preparedness program is now available through the National Center for Biomedical Research and Training (NCBRT)!

CDLS is a nationally recognized all-hazards course designed to increase emergency responder awareness of basic skills, competencies, knowledge, and resources that are critical for a coordinated and effective local emergency response effort.  Through the DISASTER Paradigm, the course prepares first responders from all disciplines to play an effective role in disaster response.  The electronic version, eCDLS, will give first responders the flexibility to access this important training when and where it is convenient for them.  The course comprises nine modules, a pre-test, and a post-test.

eCDLS is targeted to these first responder disciplines:  firefighters, law enforcement, emergency management, emergency medical services, public health, healthcare, public safety communications, governmental administrative, hazardous materials, and public works. They are covered at a level that is accessible and understandable across all levels of public health, health care, and safety.

The course is available at:

(This will launch you into the site where the course is hosted: http://www.ncbrt.lsu.edu/elearn)

You have to register first once you arrive to the NCERT eLearning site, receive a confirmation email with a password, then you can access the course. There is a form on the website you fill out if you are requesting CME/CE hours upon completion.

The course is funded and approved on a grant from the Department of Homeland Security that expires on March 30, 2008. eCDLS users who complete the free course before the grant expiration will receive a CDLS course manual, the AMA Responding to Public Health Emergencies virtual library CD-ROM, and a wallet-card certifying them in CDLS. You do not need these materials to complete the course and are more useful as a reference source after course completion.

We will issue and mail a NDLS certificate for users that complete the course. Physicians can claim 4-hours of CME credit and non-physicians can receive a Certificate of Participation. eCDLS is approved for 4 CME/CE credits upon completion.

If you have any questions, please let me know. We hope that eCDLS will become integral in your disaster preparedness education. Thank you.

Sincerely,
