Pottawatomie County MRC Meet & Greet

(26 Volunteers attended; they assisted in the credentialing process and were badged on site. Also, volunteers received a letter in advance.  They said that the letter helped a lot in remembering to come to the Meet and Greet.  We also found out that most volunteers wanted training during the workday because their employer will allow them to come.  ---Added 3/16/12 CRieger)
NEWS RELEASE:
The Pottawatomie County Health Department is hosting an informational meeting for the Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps (OKMRC) on Tuesday February 21st  from 11am To 7pm at the Pottawatomie CHD Auditorium, 1904 Gordon Cooper Dr Shawnee, OK. This will be an opportunity to meet and learn more about OKMRC. State and local coordinators will present a program overview and answer any questions. Refreshments will be served.
The Oklahoma Medical Reserve Corps (OKMRC) provides medical and public health professionals, as well as dedicated citizens, an organized system for volunteering during a large-scale emergency such as a pandemic, chemical spill or any other public health event. In addition, OKMRC volunteers work to improve the overall health and well-being of their communities by engaging in public health initiatives throughout the year. The Oklahoma MRC needs volunteers with a diversity of talents, experience and skills who might be able to assist with communications, security, translation, clergy, transportation, public works, administrative, professional medical care and many other areas.
Just like you, the Medical Reserve Corps has a strong interest in improving the lives of others. By making a strong and positive impact in Pottawatomie County, Medical Reserve Corps volunteers engage in strengthening public health, emergency response and community resiliency. Through collaboration with the Pottawatomie County Health Department, emergency management, police, first responders, community organizations, and other volunteer programs and local groups, the Pottawatomie County MRC will build awareness for public health initiatives and emergency preparedness.
In an emergency, local resources get called upon first, sometimes with little or no warning. As a member of an MRC unit, you can be part of an organized and trained team. You will be ready and able to bolster local emergency planning and response capabilities. The specific role that you will play, and the activities in which you will participate, will depend upon your background, interests and skills, as well as the needs of the MRC unit and Pottawatomie County.
