Date/Time: Additional Information: Water Safety & Heat Illness and Sunburn Training* Instructor: Rick Cohen, MD, FAAP Please join us as Dr. Rick Cohen shares with us on how to stay safe this summer. He will give us practical tips on how to stay safe in our personal lives and while working out in the field whether that be on our day-to-day public health missions or responding to disasters and emergencies (tis the season). He will cover Water Safety and Heat Illness & Sunburn and ways to combat them and stay safe. This is a vital training for those in the emergency preparedness world and a perfect one to have in your preparedness toolkit. Plus, you know if it's Dr. Cohen, it's going to not only be informative, but fun, plus he brings cookies (for those attending in-person)! This one is open to the public, community partners, friends, and family! Get to sharing. Just have them pre-register so we know how many folks to expect. Non-OKMRC folks can register by emailing csuns@tulsa-health.org. OKMRC volunteers attending in-person will get a deployment item for their go-bags. This course provides essential knowledge for recognizing, preventing, and treating heat-related health issues and sun damage. Participants will learn to identify the signs and symptoms of various heat illnesses, with a focus on distinguishing between potentially life-threatening heat stroke and heat exhaustion. The course covers predisposing factors, prevention strategies, and treatment methods for heat-related conditions and sunburn. By the end of the training, attendees will be equipped with practical skills to protect themselves and others during hot weather and high sun exposure situations, enhancing safety in both work and recreational environments. * This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by the University of Oklahoma Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
