Point of Dispensing (POD) Operations Training

If a bioterrorist attack or widespread disease ever occurs, Tulsa Health Department (THD) will open temporary emergency “Points of Dispensing” (PODs) to provide emergency medical countermeasures to protect against the threat. It is vital to have our OKMRC volunteers and THD employees trained in specific roles to begin dispensing/administering medications to Tulsa County residents. In this training, you will learn about THD’s role in the Strategic National Stockpile, POD operation requirements/positions and dispensing procedures.  This training will touch on how OKMRC fits into Tulsa County’s Emergency Operations Plan and Mass Immunizations and Prophylaxis Strategy (MIPS) Plan for real world public health events.

This training is a general overview of Point of Dispensing (POD) operations, including how PODs are used during public health emergencies to rapidly distribute medications or supplies to the community. Participants will learn the basic structure and flow of a POD, key staff roles and responsibilities, and how volunteers support efficient and safe operations.

By the end of this session, volunteers will understand:

 - The purpose and importance of PODs in emergency response
 - The different types of PODs and how they operate
 - Volunteer roles and expectations during POD activation
 - Basic safety, communication, and documentation procedures

This training is ideal for both new and experienced volunteers who want to be prepared to assist during large-scale public health responses.
