OK County: How to Effectively Communicate with People with Hearing Loss

Jul 20 2023

A common misconception about hearing loss is that is just affects older adults; however, this is absolutely not the case. Hearing loss affects many within our community, workplace, family, and friend groups. It is also #2 most common disability diagnosis for U.S. military personnel. In Oklahoma, 5.2 % of all residents are currently living with hearing loss. Unfortunately, because hearing loss is an "invisible disability", it is commonly overlooked in our daily interactions with others. In this training, we will seek to raise awareness of the prevalence of hearing loss in our everyday communications, as well as learn strategies and common courtesies to ensure effective communication with persons with hearing loss.
