OK County: Winter Preparedness Drive

We will be hosting the 6th Annual Winter Preparedness Drive Tuesday, December 5th - Tuesday, December 19th! All donations will go to the Homeless Alliance, a nonprofit that aims to end homelessness in our county.

According to the 2023 OKC Point in Time Count, “Oklahoma County lacks more than 4,500 affordable housing units” and someone would need to work “71 work hours/week at minimum wage to afford 1-bed rent.” In 2021, the Homeless Alliance served 8,226 unduplicated individuals at their day shelter.

OCCHD employees and OKMRC volunteers have consistently worked together to support the unhoused population in Oklahoma County. This past summer, OCCHD staff and OKMRC volunteers donated over 800 hygiene items for the 2023 Summer Hygiene Drive!

This year, the Homeless Alliance is asking for new or gently used men's and women's jeans and sweatpants; gender-neutral sweatshirts and long-sleeved t-shirts in all sizes; men's and women's winter boots/shoes—warm, comfortable for lots of walking, (no heels or dress shoes), men's and women's winter parkas, and warm gloves.

As for new items, they need men’s and women’s underwear, as well as men’s XL crew socks (XL only).

If you do not have coats, long sleeves, or boots available in the closet to give away and it is not in your budget to purchase any, the Homeless Alliance can always use chapstick and hot hands/body warmers/toe warmers!

Donation boxes will be located at the following OCCHD locations: North (2600 NE 63rd St), South (6728 S Hudson Ave), West (4330 NW 10th Street), WIC Shepherd (2401 NW 23rd Street), and Sequoyah (2400 NW 36th). Donations will be accepted from Tuesday, December 5th - Tuesday, December 19th from 8 AM - 4 PM, Monday through Friday.
